Wisconsin Individual & Small Business Health Insurance - WIHIA

Short Term Medical, Dental, and Travel Coverage

Short Term Medical

If you're uninsured now and haven't recently lost coverage, your option to get insured now is to buy a short term plan. These plans are available year round, unlike full medical policies which are only available to purchase during Open Enrollment (November 1st and December 15th for January 1st coverage).

It's a smart plan to have something to protect you from financial disaster if you can't get full insurance because you've missed the enrollment period. These plans are also recommended when you have a small gap in coverage. Remember, short term medical plans generally do not cover preexisting conditions or preventive care and have a list of excluded conditions (mental health care is excluded, for example). Be sure to read the terms carefully before purchasing!

If you're looking for a short term plan (not fully qualified insurance), we suggest:
  • UnitedHealth One
  • IHC Specialty Benefits
  • Pivot Health
  • National General  and Product Guide

We also recommend looking into a supplemental plan if you have a high deductible:
  • Safeguard Health Supplemental (works well with health ministries)

Gap Insurance for High Deductible Plans

High deductible plans are not much fun. Protect your wallet by adding gap insurance to help cover costs!

Travel Insurance

Traveling? It's highly recommended you invest in travel insurance whether traveling inside or outside the US! Most health insurance does not cover international travel, even for emergencies, and regular medical insurance never covers transport back if you need to come home.

Check out your international travel insurance options here.

If you're looking for within the US travel, try this option.
